iMac G4

"The New iMac"

The iMac G4 is an all-in-one desktop computer produced and sold by Apple Inc. from 2002 to mid-2004, succeeding the egg-shaped iMac G3 and being succeeded by the iMac G5.

Noted for its radical new design comparing to older macs and regular computers, the iMac G4 received much praise, and was very successful during its two years being marketed by Apple, despite the price.  The iMac G4 was one of the first, if not the first computer, to support multiple display angles, and sizes.  The iMac G4 was very expensive though, mostly due to the cost of LCD displays at the time, and it featured minor image loading and rendering issues of newer versions of OS X.

Most remembrance of the iMac G4 comes from its design though, which in my theory Microsoft used it as an example for their Surface Studio.  But either way the iMac G4 has maintained a very clean, simple and nice look, and in my opinion it could be sold today and it would still look and feel very nice, even though it was designed from 2000-2002.

          15 inch          17 inch                20 inch

For the first time ever in all-in-one computers, and in Apple's history, the iMac G4 was the first Mac model ever to offer a range of sizes, relating to the computer and the screen.  The screen sizes and definitions were very high quality for the time also, and at the top of the line for desktop computers.  Just think the iMac G4 20 in. still has a very large screen, even comparing to Microsoft's Surface studio, 27 in., and Apple's newest iMac, 28 in.

Design

As said when the iMac G4 was first announced by Steve Jobs back in 2002, it took two long years to design and perfect the iMac. For example the hinge and display needed to be perfected, or optimized, so that when you turned it, or changed the angle the screen and hinge would not shake, like the Surface Studio. The iMac also was very nicly and differently designed compared to other computers at the time, like its predecessor.  Despite that though, it lacked in color choice with only one, white.

In Movies or Shows

A computer very similar to the iMac G4 is shown on the desk in Rallo's Bedroom on "The Cleveland Show".

In the Sarah jane adventures Mrs Wormwood's assistant had one on her desk in 2007s first episode "Invasion of the Bane"

In George Lopez, the family is shown to have an iMac G4. In the episode "Weekend at Benny's", the kids pull it off the desk during an argument.
