CLEVELAND, Ohio – Our brunch and breakfast series continues as we check out Bourbon Street Barrel Room. Here’s a look at what to expect:
Location + hours: 2393 Professor Ave., Cleveland, 216-298-4400. Brunch is 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Street parking.
Menu or buffet? Menu.
About the place: Take a trip to the Big Easy without leaving Cleveland. It's impossible to miss the New Orleans theme, the atrium-style design to the Mardi Gras banners, hanging beads, gas lights and menu items. Johnny Schulze, who also owns Zydeco Bistro food truck, runs this restaurant in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood. Downstairs, the bar lines the left side with booths along the right. Communal and four-top tables are in the middle. Upstairs, tables overlook the first floor. Beads hang all over - from the chandelier and second-floor iron works.
About the menu: Ten entrees plus five omelets and more than a dozen a la carte items. Cornmeal-crusted chicken atop French Toast was a savory and excellent start to the day. Shrimp and grits was equally flavorful and generous (though we'd suggest half-order portions should be available for dishes like this).
About the drinks: Ten - count 'em, 10 - flavors of mimosas. Also: Great coffee, quick refills.
Don’t miss: Most popular sellers are chicken and French toast, shrimp and grits, and Cajun Jambalaya 'n eggs.
Nice touch: Of course, the restaurant offers beignets.
