How Young Is Too Young For High Heels?

I'll admit it: By the time I learned to teeter around on stilettos without looking absolutely ridiculous, I was well into my twenties. But it looks like one celebrity kid is poised to have me beat in a high heel relay by the time she's six (literally)...find out who it is, after the jump.

Yes my dears, that's Suri Cruise, age three, flitting around Boston's Newbury Street with her famous mother, Katie Holmes, in a pair of sparkly silver D'Orsay "pumps" yesterday. It's not Suri's first foray into luxury footwear--she's had designer shoes made especially for her by the likes of Christian Louboutin and Roger Vivier--but I'm wondering what the pint-sized fashionista will have to look forward to when she turns 16.

I was a late bloomer in every sense of the phrase, and I think I was still wearing patent leather ankle strap Mary Janes when I was Bat Mitzvahed at age 13. My dorky argyle sweaters with matching turtlenecks phase lasted right up to middle school, and corduroy culottes were about the coolest thing you'd be able to catch me in before 1988. But I have to say, that made my fashion autonomy so much more special when I finally achieved it. Getting to pick out my own gorgeous clothes and find my own style and figure out what looked good on me felt so much better because my mother tortured me with Polly Flinders dresses for so many years--it's just part of being a kid!

Suri, on the other hand, has every imaginable fashion luxury at her fingertips, and I can't help but think she's a bit young to appreciate it. I also can't help but think she might be growing up a wee bit too fast...what about you girls? Do you think three is too young to wear peep-toe heels out in public, and not just for dress-up? Were you dying for your own pair of stilettos when you were young? Is it all just harmless play, or do you think it's inappropriate? Would you let your own daughter wear heels before she hits kindergarten? How young is too young? Discuss!
