Sofia Coppola wore a tie-neck Louis Vuitton blouse and black pants to a photocall in Cannes yesterday. She looked understated and chic. Big surprise.
What is a surprise, however, is that the Bling Ring director turned 42 this week. That's impressive not only because she has not aged at all (seriously, what's your secret SC?) but also because her personal style has never wavered. Year after year, she's managed to be fashionable without looking trendy, classic without being boring. Plus, she always looks modern.

Even if Coppola's style isn't your taste, you have to admit she's got a really well-defined signature look. Here's what I've discovered about how she does it:
- She sticks to colors she knows she looks good in: ivory, navy, and black. Simple but effective.
- Similarly, she stays with silhouettes that work for her body type: high-neck tops, straight-leg pants, button-down shirts, cinched waists, and A-line skirts.
- She's not afraid to wear her favorite things over and over again: ankle-strap shoes and big cuff bracelets.
