Bob Dylan Poster By Milton Glaser (1967)

£295.00

“DYLAN” - 1967

Designed by Milton Glaser / Pin Push Studios. Published by Columbia Records. Lithograph. Measures 84cm x 56cm. Excellent condition, stored folded into a square as issued. One small tear along the fold at the bottom (2cm)

This beautiful psychedelic Bob Dylan poster was designed by internationally acclaimed American designer Milton Glaser. Columbia Records commissioned Glaser to design a poster to accompany the 1967 release of 'Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits.' (Hence its folded size, to fit within a record sleeve).

Glaser took inspiration from by Marcel Duchamp and the colorful forms of Islamic painting to depict Dylan’s silhouette with a striking psychedelic design to represent his hair. Glaser believed he had created something “uniquely American”. Glaser hid the word ‘Elvis’ in the hair design owing to Dylan’s childhood love (and no doubt later inspiration) for Elvis Presley.

Whilst around six million posters were printed few have survived in this condition. Examples of this poster reside in MOMA and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York and the V&A Museum and National Portrait Gallery in London.
