Hollywood icon Elizabeth Montgomery used to bewitch TV viewers, but her personal life was beset by struggles, a new biography reveals.
Along with starring in *Bewitched* as the nose-twitching witch Samantha, the blond bombshell went through four husbands and numerous affairs, according to the tell-all tome.
“She had a dark side to her,” Herbie Pilato, author of the newly released *Twitch Upon A Star,* told the Mail Online. “She enchanted every man she ever met, but she seemed drawn to troubled men, not nice guys.”
The Hollywood beauty also appeared to have a “father complex,” picking partners who abused her physically and mentally.
The book details Montgomery’s relations with Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Gary Cooper as well as a friendship with President John F. Kennedy.
The book also explores Montgomery’s tumultuous relationship with her father, screen legend Robert Montgomery. Elizabeth Montgomery was a liberal while he was a staunch conservative.
“She was always looking for the ‘bad boy’, which may have been part of her rebellion against her father,” Pilato said.
Despite earning millions in Hollywood and mothering three children, she never found true happiness, he said.
“She was beautiful and alluring and looking for love,’ said Pilato.
The book, which hit shelves this month, is based on interviews Pilato had with the starlet before she died of cancer at age 62 in 1995.
