ICONIC actor Alan Arkin was known for his stellar performances on screen, as well as on stage.

On June 30, 2023, it was revealed that the 89-year-old Hollywood star had passed away at his California home on Thursday.

Who was Alan Arkin?

Alan Wolf Arkin was born in New York City on March 26, 1934.

He was an Academy Award and Tony Award-winning actor, director, and screenwriter best known for his role as Edwin Hoover in the 2006 film, Little Miss Sunshine.

Arkin was most recently nominated for six Emmy Awards for his role in the Netflix series, The Kominsky Method, starring Michael Douglas. 

Aside from the big screen, Arkin was also a well-known face on Broadway, making his debut in 1961 in From the Second City - following it up with a Tony-winning performance in 1963's Enter Laughing.

What was Alan Arkin's cause of death?

On June 29, 2023, the 89-year-old star passed away at his home in Carlsbad, California.

Arkin's cause of death has yet to be revealed, however, his death was confirmed by his three sons, Adam Arkin and Matthew Arkin, whom he shared with his first wife, Jeremy Yaffe, and Anthony Dana Arkin, whom he shared with his second wife, Barbara Dana.

"Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man," they told PEOPLE. "A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed."

Arkin is survived by his third wife, Suzanne Newlander Arkin, whom he married in 1996.

The majority of his wealth is said to come from his successful career spanning over eight decades in Hollywood.

However, as time went on, Arkin got candid about the reality of the business and how stressful it could be at times. He even decided to leave The Kominsky Method after the first two seasons.

"I'm like a horse going down the trail," he told The Guardian in 2020.

"Acting is so ingrained in my physiognomy and the channels of my brain that I find myself missing aspects of the business. But I don’t need it anymore. I should probably get over it.”
