This Mercury Comet got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1962 Mercury Comet Custom Villager is a four-door station wagon that remained with its original owner near Los Angeles, California until at least the 1980s, and it is said to have been owned in California through its acquisition by the current owner in June 2019. Finished in Champagne with woodgrain paneling over a two-tone black and white interior, this example is powered by a 170ci inline-six mated to a replacement C4 three-speed automatic transmission. The car was optioned with a power rear window and a roof rack, and service within the past six months reportedly has included brake repairs, replacement of the battery, and an oil change. This Comet wagon is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a period Mercury Comet Villager brochure, California registration documentation from the original owner dating from 1962 to 1982, black California license plates, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The car is finished in Champagne (T) with faux-woodgrain paneling along the sides and rear. Paint and trim surfaces exhibit aging, sun fading, corrosion, crazing, and wear. Additional exterior features include chrome bumpers, rear fender skirts, a luggage rack, passenger-side curb feelers, and a bottom-hinged tailgate with a power rear window. The seller notes that the fender skirts have been replaced. 1962 was the Comet’s first year badged as a Mercury, and the model was restyled to more closely resemble the rest of the marque’s lineup.
