On how she wakes up in the morning

£50, available at Cultbeauty.co.uk.

I try and do hot water and lemon, but I have to admit I’m more of a coffee kind of girl. I usually just wake up and then go straight to the bathroom and wash my face. I went and had a facial at Dr Barbara Sturm, so I’ve got all of her products. I’ve been using the Enzyme Cleanser which is a powder that you mix with water – it gets really foamy which makes me feel really awake, and I wash it off with cold water. Then, I’ll apply a serum and moisturiser. After that, I usually go and make coffee and start going through my emails because I’m in LA right now, so I always feel like I’m playing catch up as I get so many emails from Europe. Then if I have time, I’ll go for a walk or do yoga.

On her evening skincare routine

It depends on how much time I have. On a Sunday I’ll do a mask – the one I’m obsessed with right now is Isun Chlorella Algae Mask, but I like to try lots of different ones. If I need to do a really big cleanse, I’ll do the Eve Lom Rescue Mask. And then I’ll do the same cleansing routine as in the morning but usually steam my face or massage too. I am constantly trying new products, so usually the weekend is when I get the opportunity to use them.

£55, available at Spacenk.com.

I’m really into Shani Darden – she’s great. She’ll make you a mask [during the facial]. And her whole treatment depends on how your skin is when you go in there, she really changes it up based on what’s going on seasonally. She’s my go-to over here in LA.

On the make-up she couldn’t live without

£48, available at Cultbeauty.co.uk.

A really good concealer because that’s my bottom line – if I’m not going to do much, I will just do a concealer and some kind of a lip. If it’s a really basic day of make-up or just for a Zoom or something, then I like to do a lip tint. I like Hourglass’s lip oils because they make it look like you’re wearing a proper gloss but don’t feel like that, and they’re really sheer. A really good mascara is also key. And then a classic red lip is something I’ve always done – that’s my go-to look for when I’m getting dressed up.

On eyeshadow

RICARDO LOZANO

I’m super obsessed with eyeshadow and went through a huge phase of being really experimental with colour and glitters and stuff like that – I had bleached eyebrows and I felt I had to define my eyes. Even now I don’t like to wear nothing on my eyes. As long as you keep your skin looking as natural as possible, I love to do an eye and a lip both at the same time.

Hourglass Curator Palette, available from 8 July.

In my Hourglass palette [which you can personalise], I went for colours that suited my eye colour. I went for a sunset smoky eye, with brick reds – that kind of look. Reds are my all-time favourite colour on myself because my eyes are green. I wanted to have a matte shadow that you can wear on its own for a subtle day look, and then have some metallics and a bit of sparkle on top of it. You can use each one individually, pick two and use them together, or use all three.

On the beauty lesson she learned from her mum

It’s kind of funny because my mum [Texan supermodel Jerry Hall] is really into natural skincare but, at the same time, she’s really into full glam. She grew up in Texas and they didn’t have access to a lot of stuff – they’d make their own avocado face masks and hair treatments, and use olive oil for everything. She’s one of five sisters and they also loved spending hours experimenting on each other – and that’s always stuck with her. Even now, she recently let us dye her hair copper and I was really surprised. I thought, ‘Wow, you’re braver than most of the young people I know.’ She had a picture of Michelle Pfeiffer and asked to look like that. I feel like even though she’s older than me, she’s never not willing to try a new look when it comes to beauty. That is inspirational for me because sometimes – especially when we’re all on the go – we can get a bit stuck in the products we use. I always think about her growing up trying different hair looks or opting for full lashes, and go for it.

On living a balanced lifestyle

It’s all about balance. I’m living in LA and my sister went to the Ayurvedic spa the other day, and I do love stuff like that but I haven’t had a lot of time for it. For me it’s about finding balance with food – I love cooking and trying out lots of new things – and fitness, doing stuff like yoga and pole dancing classes as well. I like to have fun with working out and mix it up. Swimming is also really meditative for me, even just doing laps of the pool, or the ocean if you can find it! And horse riding too.

On supplements

£22.99, available at Hollandandbarrett.com.

I’ve got really into taking supplements since I’ve been here. They’re not that crazy – they all sound like kids’ ones because I love easy stuff. I use a multivitamin that’s called Smarty Pants that’s got everything in it. My sister got me into them and they’re chewable, which reminds me of growing up. They taste really good. I’m anaemic so I also take Spatone Iron Sachets and Neo Cells Super Collagen which you mix with water. My sister claims it can make your boobs bigger [laughs], but for me it’s just about treating my eczema-prone skin. It’s helped with that.

On the new Bleach salon in LA

It’s very cool – it’s Alex [Brownsell’s] vision and it comes from her love of ASMR. We’ll be bringing our Dalston salon to Hollywood. You come into the shop from the point of view of the hair itself – we’re having a sound bar that will feature the sounds of hair getting cut, washed and snipped.

On experimenting with hair colour

At the British Fashion Awards in 2018.

Samir Hussein

I’ve been waiting to be the first person in the [Bleach LA] chair. I have balayage right now because during Covid I was growing out my hair and cut it all off myself. I wanted to start afresh after lots of work and give it a break. It worked out quite well because it’s grown a lot. One of my favourite colours in the past was pink for the British Fashion Awards – I wore a pink Mulberry suit with it and it was a lot, but just the right amount. I think I’m going to try a new colour that hasn’t come out yet, which is a pearly pink-purple. That, or a red dip dye with balayage. Alex and I are working on it.

On how she styles her hair

£17, available at Lookfantastic.com.

I’m obsessed with the Bleach Reincarnation Mask, I use it at least three to four times a week, and I leave it on for as long as possible. That really helps [with hair health]. I try – unless I’m at work – not to use any heat on my hair, and I’ve learned how to curl it using a wet technique. I get four sections on each side of my parting and twist into curls away from my face.

On the beauty icons she’d be for a night

There are just so many! I’m obsessed with Grace Jones. She takes make-up to a level that I wish I could. I’m also obsessed with Drew Barrymore. I love it when she talks about the products she likes on Instagram because it’s so real – it comes from a genuine place.

On how she switches off after a long day

Lately everything has quickly gone back [to how it was before Covid]. It’s been a bit of a shock to the system. Suddenly you’re seeing all these people and going back to work! It’s really important to switch off. I always catch up with my friends on the phone and then put it on aeroplane mode. I love listening to podcasts like Dolly’s America – I love that one. But I’m trying not to be on Instagram and on my computer, while watching TV at the same time, like we did during quarantine.

On the secret to an excellent bath

I am more of a bath girl because I’m English – I feel like American people think it’s weird to bathe, but I love it. I experiment with all different salts and I love magnesium. And then I also do lavender essential oil or put some coconut oil in there. I light a good candle and that’s a really good way for me to wind down. I don’t always have time for one, but when it’s been a stressful day, I feel it’s important to make that time because otherwise you start to spin out. I love hanging out in my bathrobe afterwards as well.
