Name a more iconic mother-daughter duo than Jerry Hall and Georgia May Jagger. Difficult, isn’t it? A legendary supermodel, Hall defined the glamour of the 1970s, with the American making her Vogue cover debut in 1975 for the May issue of British Vogue; where she went on to grace the cover a total of five times that decade. Jagger, who is the spitting image of both her parents (inheriting the effortless beauty of her model mother and the signature pout of her famous father), naturally followed in Hall’s footsteps to the runway and beyond, and is now one of the most recognizable faces working in fashion today. Since 2019, alongside the likes of Precious Lee and Evan Mock, she is also one of the Pandora Muses, a global collective representing the brand’s key values of “inclusivity, social responsibility and empowerment.”
Hall and Jagger are not just celebrated for their impeccable sense of style, but also for their warm, larger-than-life personalities. Inviting Vogue into their Los Angeles home, the pair take us "behind the scenes" of their close relationship, showing the unconditional love between a mother and daughter that shines through the everyday.
Sitting in their living room, they leaf through family photo albums from the 1990s. Hanging poolside, Jagger snaps images of her mom modeling pieces from the Pandora Mother’s Day collection to fill 2022’s scrapbooks. The pair share anecdotes from their lives together: tales from past Mother’s Days and the special ways they were celebrated, both big and small. “I really liked last Mother's Day, because it was the first year that Lizzy was a mother and you were a grandmother,” says Jagger. “We had a picnic in the garden; it was so lovely.” The model also recounts a time when she and her siblings spelled out “Happy Mother’s Day” using hundreds of yellow roses, much to Hall’s surprise and delight.
As she smiles at photos of her and Hall, including a snapshot of them in incredible coordinated leopard print outfits, Jagger reflects on her childhood and the first memories she has of her mother. “I was always trying to play in her clothes and watch her get ready. She was so glamorous,” she says. “I was probably four, so I would just put blusher and lipstick all over my face.” More artistic mishaps occurred later in life, when Jagger spilled a bottle of nail polish and an entire liter of green emulsion on the carpet as a teenager whilst working on an art project but Hall didn’t get mad. “These things happen!”, she says. “We put a rug over it.”
It’s these kinds of everyday moments of love that make celebrating our mom's all the more important. Pandora’s latest Mother’s Day collection includes the infinity clasp bracelet, representing a never ending bond, and its new encircled design, a fresh symbol for family from the Danish brand. For Jagger, this celebration happens more than once a year. “Typically, we celebrate Mother's Day twice a year, because obviously I'm half American and half English. So I like to give her the opportunity to have both,” continues Jagger, who helps Hall to gather her jet-set clan together in one place for some quality family time. “I love to have lunch with all the kids together on these occasions. It's just such a nice day,” says Hall. “I think all mothers deserve their special day.”
“I mean, I think the most important thing you can teach your children is thoughtfulness and kindness to others,” says Hall. “And I'm very proud of all my children for being so sweet and kind to everyone.”
